History of Welsh Slate

New book about local Welsh history

Did you know that, in the late 1800s, more than a third of all roofing slates produced world-wide came from Wales?

In his new book, 'Llechi Cymru - Archaeoleg a Hanes' / 'Welsh Slate - Archaeology and History of an Industry’, local author, Dr David Gwynne, examines the quarries' industrial archeology, and uses numerous records, paintings, and photographs to build an enthralling picture of this distinctive industry.

The 291-page large-format book (available through the Royal Commission), contains more than 248 illustrations.
